SmartThings

Samsung · one app for the whole home

SmartThings

Samsung SmartThings ties lights, sensors, plugs and cameras into one app — with or without a hub, and now natively with Matter.

Overview

SmartThings is Samsung’s smart-home platform. Modern Samsung TVs, fridges and the SmartThings Station act as a hub for Zigbee, Thread and Matter, while Wi-Fi devices join straight through the app. It runs routines locally, works with Bixby, Alexa and Google voice, and is a solid free choice for a first DIY system.

How to connect a DIY device

01

Open the SmartThings app

Install it on iOS or Android and sign in with a free Samsung account.

02

Add device

Tap + → Device. Scan the Matter QR code, or pick the brand from the list for Wi-Fi and Zigbee gear.

03

Assign a room

Put the device in a room so voice and automations know where it is.

04

Create routines

Combine devices into scenes: “Good night” turns off lights and arms sensors.
